Deputy Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Salary: £13.50 per hour 
  • Hours: 36 hours per week, term time with additional staff meetings
  • Contract: Fixed Term for 12 months, required from September 2026

Barnabas Pre-School are seeking to appoint a Deputy Manager to join the team. 
Barnabas is a unique, small mixed age group setting with a focus on nurturing and developing relationships with individual children. Every child and staff member belongs to the Barnabas family where, together with parents, we aim high for our children.

Working alongside the Preschool Manager and with a small team of experienced professionals, this role offers the opportunity to:
  • work in a unique, small mixed age group setting with a focus on nurturing and developing relationships with individual children

  • dedicated time for short, structured learning activities for children moving on to school
  • be part of the wider community with regular local trips out, activities with senior citizens and visitors welcomed to the setting

Your responsibilities will include: 
  • curriculum planning with ambitious aims for the whole group and individual children.
  • planning, preparing, monitoring and evaluating sessions and ensuring their smooth running
  • maintaining a welcoming and positive environment for children and staff
  • implementation of the EYFS statutory framework, safeguarding legislation, health & safety and Ofsted requirements 
  • assisting to prepare the setting for Ofsted inspections, maintain policies and procedures and support reflective practice
  • working with staff to identify training interests and needs 
  • being a key person with responsibility for working with a small group of key children and their families to support individual learning and development
  • act as the Deputy Safeguarding Officer
  • working in partnership with external professionals 
  • promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and ensure individual needs, SEND and additional support requirements are met.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Qualities:
  • Minimum of relevant Level 3 childcare qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with children aged 2 to school age
  • The ability to meet the challenges of working in early years with humour and a determination to support each child to reach their full potential
  • Enjoy working as part of a small, professional and friendly team.

You will be required to:
  • Undertake an enhanced DBS check
  • Provide satisfactory references
  • Complete safeguarding training as required
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
